Backend Java Spring Boot Interview Bank
This track is for job interviews, not the certification exam.
Cert mocks test whether you pick the right option. Interviews test whether you can explain a mechanism, name the trap, and show production judgment in about one minute.
Use the book and cert track to build the model. Use this bank to practice saying it out loud.
English is on the page by default. Click Show German to reveal the German text under each question — both languages stay visible. Java/Spring terms stay in English (bean, proxy, persistence context), the way interviews in Europe usually mix the two languages.

Interview-Fragenkatalog: Backend Java Spring Boot
How an interview is different
| Cert mock | Interview |
|---|---|
| One correct letter | A clear spoken model, then follow-ups |
| Annotation names | Why the mechanism exists |
| Isolated fact | Trade-off and production consequence |
| 2 minutes of reading | 60–90 seconds of talking |
A strong answer has four parts:
- Problem — what breaks without this idea
- Mechanism — what Java or Spring actually does
- Trap — the failure mode interviewers wait for
- Judgment — when you would (not) use it
Practice that shape on How to answer.

Worin sich Prüfung und Interview unterscheiden
| Mock-Prüfung | Interview |
|---|---|
| Ein richtiger Buchstabe | Ein klares gesprochenes Modell, dann Nachfragen |
| Annotationsnamen | Warum der Mechanismus existiert |
| Isolierte Tatsache | Abwägung und Produktionsfolge |
| 2 Minuten lesen | 60–90 Sekunden sprechen |
Eine starke Antwort hat vier Teile:
- Problem — was ohne diese Idee kaputtgeht
- Mechanismus — was Java oder Spring wirklich tut
- Falle — der Fehler, auf den Interviewer warten
- Urteil — wann du es (nicht) einsetzen würdest
Die Sprechform steht unter So antwortest du.
How to practice
- Read the question. Close the model answer.
- Speak for 60–90 seconds. Do not read.
- Open the model answer. Compare mechanism, trap, and judgment — not wording.
- Answer the follow-ups out loud.
- If the trap was new, open the linked book chapter only.
Do not memorize paragraphs. Memorize the mental model and one memory sentence.

So übst du
- Frage lesen. Musterantwort zu.
- 60–90 Sekunden sprechen.
Levels
| Level | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Junior | Definitions and the happy path. You must still name one trap. |
| Mid | Default for this bank. Internals, proxies, transactions, API design. |
| Senior | Trade-offs, production failure, what you would change in a real system. |
If you are targeting a mid-level backend role in Java/Spring, you should be comfortable on Mid and have a first answer for most Senior items.

Niveaus
| Niveau | Bedeutung |
|---|---|
| Junior | Definition und Happy Path. Eine Falle musst du trotzdem nennen. |
| Mid | Standard in diesem Katalog. Internals, Proxies, Transaktionen, API-Design. |
| Senior | Abwägung, Produktionsfehler, was du in einem echten System ändern würdest. |

Seven-day sprint
If the interview is soon, do not reread the whole book. Speak these pages in this order:
| Day | Page | Why this first |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | How to answer + Java fundamentals | Interviewers start with Java, not Spring annotations |
| 2 | Collections and streams + Concurrency and JVM | HashMap, threads, and memory leaks come up constantly |
| 3 | Spring Core | IoC, proxies, and scopes are the Spring baseline |
| 4 | Spring Boot + REST and MVC | How a request becomes a method call in a Boot app |
| 5 | Data, JPA, and transactions | The most failed backend round |
| 6 | Security, testing, and AOP | Auth, CSRF/JWT, and “how would you test this?” |
| 7 | Architecture and production | Senior signal: trade-offs, not framework trivia |
Then take one cert mock only if you still mix up internals. Mocks are useful for gaps, not as interview scripts.

Sieben-Tage-Sprint
| Tag | Seite | Warum zuerst |
|---|---|---|
| 7 | Architecture and production | Senior-Signal: Abwägung, kein Framework-Trivia |
What “ready” looks like
You are interview-ready on a topic when you can, without notes:
- explain the idea in plain language
- name the Spring or JVM mechanism
- give the common trap
- say what you would do in production or in a PR review
If you only remember annotation names, you are not ready yet — open the linked book chapter.
